Subject: Shell Loads Then Error "Invalid Drive Specification"
Date: September 19, 1990
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
PROBLEM: Configuration:
NetWare SFT v2.15c
File Server Compaq 386/33
Compaq Intelligent Drives
Using ISADISK
SMC ARCNET (TP) (same result using Tiara ARCNET 8-bit cards
with coax)
The file server boots fine. It loads IPX and NET3 at the
workstations. The F: prompt is displayed. As soon as the
customer tries to execute any DOS or NetWare command, the
workstation returns "Invalid Drive Specification". Then he
looses his F: drive and can't get back to the network
without rebooting.
SOLUTION: He resolved this problem by starting over and reinstalling
NetWare. He formatted the drive. Then he went back into
NETGEN install. He reinitialized and installed Hot Fix,
the operating system, the SYSTEM, and the PUBLIC files.
After this the system came up alright and seemed to work
just fine. He had already tried just reinstalling the
SYSTEM and the PUBLIC files. It must have had something to
do with formatting the drive.
